Waimarang Waterfall: Tourism Spot That Musn’t be Missed

The waterfall is one of nature’s beauties that can satisfy eye needs. East Nusa Tenggara (East Sumba) has Waimarang Waterfall as a tourist spot that can be visited.

There are many tourist spots like beaches and lakes, but the waterfall shouldn’t be missed. Here are what you should know about the waterfall.

Location

The waterfall is located in Waimarang Village, Melolo Ward, Umalulu Sub-district, East Sumba.

Route

Waingapu becomes the best choice to start. It only takes 2 hours from the city to the beautiful waterfall.

The interesting fact is, the route you will use is savanna (like in the African continent), and you might see some horses while on the way.

The parking area/spot is marked by a vast area, and you can see how beautiful nature is before facing some challenges.

Challenge on The Way

After arriving at the parking area, you must go on foot; no vehicle to ride because it can’t go beyond the parking area (too small).

The challenge is that the waterfall is under the parking area, which you must beware of while on the way since it is a steep road which slippery conditions. In addition, there is a ravine there, which is why you must stay vigilant despite barriers or handrails.

After going through the path, you will see a dry forest quite shady, but you should be relieved since it is a sign of the waterfall finally nearby (besides a river flowing in the area).

Continue your trip until you find some steep stairs. Don’t lose focus! The stair is slippery because it is made of soil and rock. Beside the stairs, there are bamboos that you can grip if you are not confident with your balance.

Such difficulty will finally be paid in full after you see some glorious scenery of the waterfall.

Amenities

There are amenities such as parking areas and food courts. Although, the food courts are only located in the parking area.

1. Parking Area

The parking area is quite big, so you don’t need to worry if you come along with your friends or family.

2. Food Courts

Since the food courts are only available in the parking area, it is better to bring a lot of food on your own if you want to stay for a long time at the waterfall.

3. Lavatory

After swimming, you can take a bath in the lavatory. Just like the food courts, the lavatory is only available in the parking area.

Best Time to Visit

Since it is quite challenging to go to the waterfall, the best time to visit is the dry season.
It is not advised to visit in the rainy season because of the increased risk of more slippery ground.

The Beauty of Waimarang Waterfall

Since it is a waterfall, is it possible to swim there? The answer is yes. One of the uniqueness of the beautiful waterfall is a small pond formed by the flow of the waterfall and limestone cliff. Then, the pond flows into the river below it.

The beauty of the pond is the blue and Tosca color’s clarity, which makes the pond look attractive.

What You Can Do

1. Swimming

Who doesn’t want to swim in such a beautiful waterfall and pond? Anyone would regret it because of missing that chance.

Don’t forget to bring new clothes and swimming trunks before swimming.

2. Jumping

Do you want some adrenaline and excitement in the waterfall? You can jump from a nearby rock and fall into the pond in such a way as parkour or diving athletes.

The depth of the pond is 8 meters, so you don’t have to worry about crushing the bottom of the pond.

You might worry about drowning because of the depth but rest assured. There is a shallow pond with only a 1-2 meter depth, which you can use and relax inside.

3. Take a Picture

There is no way such a beautiful view is not taken a picture, especially when you visit it.

On the other hand, please be aware that there are many slippery rocks, so grab your cell phone firmly so that it won’t get lost or fall.
