Walakiri Beach: Enjoy a Beautiful Sunset with Dancing Trees

A beach is a perfect destination to release stress after a stressful job, business, or investment. In East Nusa Tenggara, Walakiri Beach is one of the best beaches to visit because of the beautiful scenery created by the mangrove tree.

If you want to go to East Nusa Tenggara for vacation, work, or family visits, don’t miss this beach even for once.

Location

While it is located in the East Nusa Tenggara, the beach’s full address is Watumbaka, Pandawai sub-district, East Sumba Regency.

Along with Weekuri Lake, it is a famous tourist spot, especially for tourists that love sunset in the beach.

Route

Walakiri Beach is only 24 km away from the heart of East Sumba, Waingapu.

You can go there either by car or motorcycle. It is advised to rent a vehicle because there are not many public transportations there.

If you go from Kupang (capital city of East Nusa Tenggara), you can take an airplane ticket to Umbu Mehang Kunda Airport in Waingapu from El Tari International Airport. Also, you can use Google maps to know the fastest route to the beautiful beach.

Amenities

The beach has many amenities such as food courts, toilets, and a parking area.

1. Parking Area

The ticket price is free, but you must pay the parking fee, which costs IDR 5000 for a motorcycle or IDR 10,000 for a car.

2. Food Courts

After swimming, you might be hungry. The good news is that there are food courts on the beach.

They usually sell noodles, fresh coconut, beer, bananas, and coffee with milk.

3. Toilets

You don’t need to worry if you need to pee or defecate. Toilet is important, especially if you bring your kids along on the trip.

The cost of the toilet is IDR 5000 per usage.

When to Visit?

Even thought the operational hour of the beach is 24/7 or always open, the best time to visit is the morning in the summer.

The reason is the tide usually comes in the morning, and it is not wise to swim during the rainy season.

What You Can Do

It is better to know what to do on that beautiful beach before arriving, right? This is the list of activities that you can do.

1. Swimming

Of course, the number one activity you must do when arriving at the beach is swimming because the tide isn’t high enough to be considered dangerous.

Don’t forget to bring swimming equipment on your own because there is no rental shop there.

2. Take Photos

Such a beautiful beach must be taken a picture of before going home. You can have memories of the beach if you take photos.

According to many reviews, the mangrove tree that seems like dancing is the best spot to take photos. The scenery is incredible, so anyone who visits the lake shouldn’t waste the opportunity.

Since the sunset scenery is gorgeous, you can take pictures in the afternoon, especially before saying goodbye to the beautiful beach.

3. Playing with Sand

When you watch cartoons or animation, playing with sand is an activity that is seen often besides swimming when it comes to the beach.

If you bring kids, they can make a sand statue or castle with some equipment. So, don’t forget to bring it along with their toys.

Tips

  1. If you bring your children with you, don’t forget to keep an eye on them.
  2. Don’t litter.
  3. If you visit the beach in the morning, don’t forget to buy sunblocks to prevent sunburn, which is dangerous for your skin.
  4. Don’t forget to bring your camera or cell phone to take a picture

Uniqueness

The uniqueness of the beach and what attracts the tourist to go there is not the sunset view but the dancing tree on the west side of the beach. It is not actually dancing, though. The mangrove’s shape looks like a dancing pose.

Not just the mangrove, the sand texture is also unique. It consists of two textures. The first one is regular/ordinary sand, while the second one has a cement-like texture. The cement texture is formed because of the collision of seawater. Furthermore, anyone can see the border between them clearly.

You can also eat or buy fish from the fish seller here and cook them on the beach.
